Brendan ‘PlayerUnknown’ Greene, the man who kicked off the Battle Royale trend with PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds (PUBG) has revealed what he and his studio is up to. A new single player open-world survival game named ‘Prologue: Go Wayback!’ is currently under development at PlayerUnknown Productions and is set to enter early access soon.
Prologue is much different from what many expected, the studio isn’t trying to make another smash hit multiplayer title but rather a unique single player experience. The game is an extreme survival game that features machine learning-driven terrain generation.
The gameplay for Prologue is described by Greene is also nothing new, as players need to get from one side of the map. What’s interesting is that players will get a new map each time they hit play, allowing them to have a completely different experience each run.
“In Prologue, you’re not just surviving. You’re exploring the wild, unknown, and trying to make it to your destination. How you get there is a story only you can tell,” the Steam page wrote.
PlayerUnknown Productions working on multiple projects
While impressive, Prologue: Go Wayback isn’t the magnum opus of the studio as they are working on three different projects. Prologue being one while another one is ‘Preface: Undiscovered World’ which is a tech demo and now available on Steam.

The final one being their ultimate project, codenamed ‘Artemis’ which is a massively multiplayer game. Both other games are termed as the foundation for project Artemis. “My vision for Artemis is challenging, but we plan to take it one step at a time and the three games aim to give us a solid tech foundation on which to scale up,” Greene explained.
While Fortnite may have currently taken the crown of the Battle Royale genre, PUBG was where it all started, leaving others to follow the trend. Released back in 2017, it was truly a unique experience and with their new project Greene seem to try and do the same once again in a different genre.
