One of the biggest Fortnite streamers on Twitch, Tyler ‘Ninja’ Blevins, recently talked about how the cancel culture has negatively affected video games and streaming. Ninja himself has seen a fair share of criticism regarding multiple of his old antics and has faced backlash.

He talks about how people just used to play games and stream for fun, and most of the gaming content that is now filled with Drama channels previously used to be funny video game compilations and gameplay clips with players showing off their skills. The topic came up after one of his viewers mentioned the Sketch incident and jokingly said Ninja next, to which he responded, “Your boy’s clean”.

Ninja’s view on cancel culture in video game streaming space

“It just seems like people are literally looking to cancel anyone and everyone at all times. Literally, it’s every day. Every day, it is something, it is someone. Someone’s getting cancelled, or trying to, for something. Social media and Twitch right now, it’s just so stupid, I’m so over it,” he said.

Since the video gaming industry has been getting big, there has been a race among popular creators to retain their fan base as new and new gamers enter the space. Amidst this, the cancel culture happened and lots of people in the gaming industry have also been “cancelled”. “Remember when we used to just play video games?” Ninja added.

He talked about old PUBG highlight days when the game was dominating the gaming industry. Hundreds of channels were posting clips of the game every day, and everyone was busy playing and simply having fun without any care.

Ninja then talked about his past self and how he started gaming from his parent’s basement. He said that now he is getting too old for this and sees multiple others who are starting their journey the same as him, and tanked his audience for sticking with him for so long.
