PlayStation announces plans to celebrate God of War's 20th anniversary

Everyone’s beloved God of War franchise is turning 20 years old on March 22nd, and PlayStation has made plans for a small celebration. In an official post, Lead Community Manager for Santa Monica Studio, Grace Orlady, shared plans to celebrate the occasion with in-game rewards, new merch, and even an art exhibition collab with Gallery Nucleus.

“Back in 2005 when the first God of War released, no one at Santa Monica Studio anticipated the success this series would have. Every creative endeavor carries the hopes of those who shaped it that they might be able to carve a legacy in the industry. As we reflect back on the past two decades of God of War, we want to celebrate this milestone with you by sharing the exciting things we have planned leading up to the anniversary,” Orlady wrote in the official blog post.

Dark Odyssey Collection coming to God of War Ragnarök

Players who have God of War Ragnarök in their libraries will receive the Dark Odyssey cosmetic pack featuring the iconic look of Kratos, along with weapons and a companion set. The pack will be given out free of charge, and players only need to log in and claim the reward.

“Inspired by the working name of God of War (2005) and the skin that originally appeared in God of War II as a reward for beating the game on God Mode difficulty, we are bringing the classic black and gold theme for the 20th anniversary. Once the update is live, you’ll be able to access the collection below from any Lost Items chest in the base game or automatically while in Valhalla,” the post read.

New God of War Merchandise and physical exhibition

Apart from in-game rewards, players will also be able to buy physical merch, including the 20th Anniversary Print Collection, Fangamer Jörmungandr Plush, T-Shirt Collection, and Laced Vinyls. The physical exhibition is taking place in Los Angeles, California, and will be live starting March 15 to March 23.
