The PlayStation 5 has reached the 75 million sales mark, with the recent quarter being the most successful to this date. In its earnings report, Sony also revealed the sales count for the PS5 reached 9.5 million in this quarter alone, creating a new record for the company and shooting the hardware way ahead of the competition.
Xbox has fallen behind the PS5 in the current console generation by a lot. The quarterly sales alone were around one-third of the entire Xbox Series X/S sales, which isn’t a good look. Xbox currently sits at 28.3 million in total sales, falling behind Xbox One and Nintendo 64.
Sony sees massive success in the PlayStation department
The PS5 hardware wasn’t the only thing that was popular with gamers in the last quarter. Further report reveals that PS5 and PS4 have reached 95.9 million units of software, out of which over 70% were digital video game sales. This number was up from 89.7 million the previous year, which reveals how strong a community PlayStation boasts.
2025 is also looking great, as PlayStation recently hosted the first State of Play this year and showcased a lot of games; many looked very interesting. Other popular games like Borderlands 4, GTA 6, and first-party exclusives like Ghost of Yotei will further keep the ball rolling for PS5. Recently, Take-Two's CEO also said that GTA 6 will boost console sales by a lot this year.

However, a PS5 Pro will likely be an ideal choice to get the most out of the game
