A day after the early access release, Path of Exile 2 has reached over half a million players on Steam, beating the all-time peak of Call of Duty Black Ops 6. Not only that, the game also doubled its player count compared to the previous game thanks to various quality of life updates, like simplifying the controls.

Currently, with an all-time high player count of 539,149, Path of Exile 2 along with Marvel Rivals also reached an all-time high of 451,018. These numbers were likely much higher as both of these games release across multiple platforms, including Xbox and PS5.

Together, these are two of the biggest games released this month as of now. It is also surprising to see both games release close to each other and still have so many players. This is likely thanks to the cheap early access for Path of Exile 2 and a low cost of zero for Marvel Rivals.

A big overhaul to every mechanics

The more things change, the more they stay the same. Ahead of the release, the developer breakdown revealed that the current three-act campaign will take players around 25 hours to complete, which seems to be true for the most part. Act 1 itself can take anywhere between 8 and 10 hours for an average player if they are not trying to rush through.

Path of Exile 2 also made things a lot easier, including crafting, and the addition of dodge roll is incredibly strong. Coming from a previous game with over 600 hours, the currency drop rate is much higher, allowing players to finally not be scared of crafting. Exalted orbs, which rarely show their faces, are now dropping on a regular basis from world bosses.

As of now, the best way to describe the game is the amalgamation of Elden Ring and Diablo 2, and everyone is loving it despite having login issues at launch, which the developers did not expect for paid early access.
