Blizzard Entertainment is reportedly venturing into the mobile gaming arena with an exciting new project — a mobile version of their popular hero-shooter, Overwatch. According to some news reports, this project is already in development, sparking immense anticipation among fans.

Bloomberg journalist and author Jason Schreier revealed this in his latest book - Play Nice: The Rise, Fall, and Future Of Blizzard Entertainment. In the book, he provides insights into what might be one of the most significant moves for the Overwatch franchise.

The news of an Overwatch mobile game has been a long-awaited development in the gaming community, as Blizzard expands its presence into the competitive mobile gaming market. Schreier reveals that Walter Kong, the former leader of the Overwatch 2 team, has now taken on the role of General Manager for this mobile project.

In his book, Schreier confirms, "Overwatch was led by Walter Kong, who oversaw the release of regular heroes and content for Overwatch 2, as well as new projects like a mobile version of the franchise." This announcement is monumental for Blizzard fans, especially those who have eagerly awaited the chance to play Overwatch on the go.

With the success of other mobile ports like COD Mobile and PUBG Mobile, Blizzard’s entry into this space is expected to elevate mobile gaming further. While the game’s exact release date remains unknown, industry speculation points to a 2025 launch.

Will It Be a Port or Something New?

One key question is whether the Overwatch mobile game will be a direct port of Overwatch 2 or a completely new version tailored for mobile devices. As history has shown with games like Call of Duty: Warzone Mobile, a successful adaptation could dominate the competitive mobile gaming scene.

This has fans excited about what Overwatch could bring to the mobile platform, potentially revolutionizing how hero-shooters are played on handheld devices. The introduction of Overwatch to mobile would mark a significant step for Blizzard in bringing one of its most beloved franchises to a wider audience.

With mobile gaming growing rapidly, this move aligns with the industry trend of making AAA titles accessible across multiple platforms. Although there is no official confirmation yet on specific features or gameplay mechanics for the mobile version, the excitement surrounding the possibility of playing a fast-paced, team-based hero shooter on mobile devices is palpable.
