Blizzard Entertainment has now decided to remove the Hero Mastery Gauntles PvE mode from Overwatch starting Season 11. This decision comes just months after its release, claiming the mode isn’t popular among the players.

“Hero Mastery Gauntlet was intended to bring the high score-chasing excitement of Hero Mastery missions into a multiplayer format. Unfortunately, it hasn’t resonated with players in the ways that we hoped. With this in mind, we have decided to discontinue Hero Mastery Gauntlet as a permanent mode, and it will not be available to play starting in Season 11,” the Community Manager said in the forum.

The Hero Mastery Gauntlet was originally added as the replacement for the promised PvE mode before the launch of Overwatch 2. Most of the players remain indifferent to this decision, as not many were happy after the original PvE was cancelled. The new mode, as the post said, didn’t ‘resonated with players’.

One good news is that the solo Hero Mastery mode for individual heroes will remain. Players who like to mess around in those will still be able to do so. However, those who plan to get the ‘rewards’ from Hero Mastery Gauntlet only have a few weeks left to do so.

Fans cite reasons for the co-op PvE failure

The main reason behind the failure of the mode as per players was the boring design on top of lacklustre rewards that did not encourage players to come back in any way. It was fun for a few rounds but got old pretty fast. “Yeah, I don’t mean to sound like a downer, but I’ve never even touched this mode, glad they’re recognising no one really asked for it,” one of the players said.

Since the last few months, Overwatch 2 have been struggling to maintain harmony with players. While the game improves on one thing, there’s always some decision to bring it back down. With this, Blizzard takes another L in its book.
