Season 15 of Overwatch 2 will begin on February 18 and ahead of that, the developers gave players an overview. Amidst the new game modes, heroes, and hero perks, the devs also revealed the return of ‘loot boxes’ in the game, almost two years after the decision to remove them with the release of Overwatch 2.
“You will be able to earn a variety of cosmetics when collecting loot boxes. They will be available from weekly and event rewards, as well as earning 1 Legendary Loot box in the Free Battle Pass, and an additional 2 Legendary Loot boxes in the Premium Battle Pass,” the official blog post revealed.
Blizzard going the route of Gacha games
The initial implementation of loot boxes in Overwatch was a highly debated topic. However, the return brings a lot of changes, especially a guarantee for players to receive Epic or Legendary items, similar to how most Gacha games like Genshin Impact work.
“In addition to the below drop rates, to ensure you always have a chance to receive some truly great items, we are guaranteeing that a Rare or better item will drop in every single box, with an Epic item within five consecutive boxes and a Legendary item within twenty consecutive boxes,” they further added.
Along with this they also shared the odds of getting different rarity items across both types of loot boxes. Regular loot boxes have 5.10% for a Legendary, 21.93% for an Epic, 96.26% for a Rare, and 97.97% for a Common item. Similarly, Legendary Loot Boxes have 100% for a Legendary, 21.93% for an Epic, 96.26% for a Rare, and 97.97% for a Common item.
