The recent Nintendo Switch 2 reveal has raised a lot of interest for the upcoming handheld gaming console among fans. With features like backward compatibility and better performance, it’s hard to imagine what the sales number on release will look like. A new report claims that the device can sell around 20 million units within 2025.
An analyst from Sanford C. Bernstein, Robin Zhu, said Nintendo's supply chain is ready for Switch 2’s release, and the company can easily avoid the chip shortage from 2020. This in turn will allow the company to avoid any issues with scalpers creating artificial scarcity of the product, as the supply chain can help Nintendo sell over 20 million units.
While this is simply a possibility, the original Nintendo Switch has sold over 143 million units in eight years. It’s not hard to believe that the company won’t surpass these numbers, especially with all the expected features and game studios ready to release their games on the new device.
Prior to the reveal of the device, Circana analyst Mat Piscatella also cast his prediction for the Nintendo Switch 2, saying the device could sell 4.3 million units in the US alone, considering it is launched by the end of the first half of 2025. Globally, the sale numbers can easily add up.

Nintendo Switch 2 games and hardware remain a mystery
While the console is out in the open, there isn’t any news regarding new games on the device apart from Mario Kart 9. This has been one of the criticising points for the Switch 2, as players demand gameplay for various titles. The device already has backward compatibility (with some games), but players want new games with their new device.
More details on the Switch 2, including some gameplay reveals from new titles, are expected to be unveiled during the Nintendo Direct. Rumours regarding some popular games coming to the console are already floating around, but nothing is confirmed until an official announcement.
