Xbox One and PS4 may see another COD game
Call of Duty Balck Ops 6 saw a huge launch thanks to its wide availability, especially through the Xbox Game Pass. With all that said, many expected the game to be the final installment for last-gen consoles like the Xbox One and PlayStation 4. However, new claims suggest that the next Call of Duty game will also support previous-gen consoles.
As reported by CharlieIntel on X (Twitter), there are rumors that Call of Duty 2025 will also land on older consoles. The report was further confirmed by Insider Gaming whose sources also said that the game is under development for the Xbox One and PlayStation 4.
Call of Duty 2025 could still release on PS4 and Xbox One, per sources. Supporting last-gen in 2025 is a wild decision, but the game is in development for the old consoles from what we've heard.

Fans react to new COD game for old consoles
The news sparked a lot of reactions from the fans who were shocked to see Activision going to lengths to support older consoles. Most fans asked the company to move and called old consoles as the reason why there are no innovations and the game feels the same after so many releases. Here’s what the fans had to say -
I know there are players still on the old gen consoles but man…12 year old hardware holding back progression of the game sucks.

Studios having to support 12 year old hardware is bad for the industry and holds back the full potential for games.

It’s time to move on
Think this has anything to do with their commitment to release on Nintendo systems / switch?

Is bringing new COD games for older devices a mistake?
Call of Duty is Activision’s IP and the company can do whatever they want. The only reason that one can think of bringing the game on old devices is because they still sell well. Both PS4 and Xbox One were quite popular and currently have more sales than their latest gen counterpart.
While it’s true that the developers are limited by older hardware, people who can’t upgrade or do not want to will still be able to play at least one more COD game. Although, official confirmation on the news is yet to come.
