Xbox delays Fable to 2026 but gives fans an early look of Albion

In a recent podcast, Xbox Game Studios head Craig Duncan revealed that Fable has been delayed to 2026. Previously relieved with a release window of 2025, the game will now land on PC and Game Pass in 2026. This decision as per the studio head was taken to give the game more time to cook before players could experience the franchise reboot once again.

“We previously announced the date for Fable as 2025, we are actually going to give Fable more time and it’s going to ship in 2026 now. While I know that’s not maybe the news people want to hear, what I want to assure people of is that it’s definitely worth the wait,” Duncan said during a recent Xbox Podcast.

Developed by Playground Games, the studio behind the Forza Horizon franchise, fans have a lot of expectations from the studio. Fable remains one of the beloved franchises for people growing up and with an incredible track record, they expect Playground Games to create another hit, and by the looks of it, they might just do it.

Fans get pre-alpha footage of Fable

While the delay was something people never expected, they did get to see a bit more of the pre-alpha footage for Fable. First impressions regarding the Albion were quite positive with people praising Playground Games for their work as the game looked visually pleasing.

Duncan also expressed his confidence saying, “I have unequivocal confidence in the Playground team. If you think about their history and legacy for Forza Horizon, the last two games critically acclaimed, 92 Metacritic, award-winning, beautiful, played great, and just what they’re bringing to Fable as a franchise.”

Xbox game lineup looking packed for 2025

Another reason why Fable was delayed is said to be due to multiple Xbox games released in 2025. These include the new DOOM game, Expedition 33, South of Midnight, and more. All of these games are also coming to PlayStation 5. The delay also comes as a chance for the devs to further improve existing things. Besides, a late 2025 release may not go so well due to GTA 6 release.
