NetEase believes Marvel Rivals and Overwatch can exist together

Marvel Rivals has been compared to Overwatch since its announcement and now that Overwatch 2 is returning to China, many are wondering which hero shooter will reign supreme. NetEase, who once again partnered with Blizzard to publish Overwatch 2 believes that both games have their places in the market and can coexist.

Answering how the company will handle Marvel Rivals and overwatch during an earnings call Q&A, NetEase said, “The expectations for Overwatch are similar to those for World of Warcraft and Hearthstone. The aim is to revitalize the product and reach new highs.”

“Both Marvel Rivals and Overwatch are excellent superhero shooters, and the market is large enough to accommodate both games. NetEase will strive to meet the diverse demands of their respective player communities,” they further added.

Marvel Rivals Vs Overwatch debate remains

The question was somewhat valid, one is NetEases’ own game which is heavily inspired by Overwatch, while the other is the real deal. There are differences but also a lot of similarities. Marvel Rivals saw a massive launch which was partly due to Blizzard’s failure to give players what they want.

It has been a while since the game launched and the player count has dropped a bit. It’s possible to enjoy both games, but juggling two live service games can be a hassle. NetEase did say things will be handled as they were before, but it remains to be seen.

Marvel Rivals have plans for eSports

Apart from competing with other games, Marvel Rivals also plans to let players compete with each other as the team is set to reveal plans for esports soon. “NetEase plans to continue investing in development and marketing, with a long-term operational strategy. The team has plans for eSports and will announce these plans to enhance the gaming ecosystem,” the company said.
