Minecraft National Park

Mojang has now released a new DLC, ‘Minecraft National Park’ in order to provide support for ‘The Nature Conservancy’ and provide awareness regarding nature among the players. Net proceeds from sale of the DLC on the marketplace will go to the foundation to help them further work on educating people regarding climate change.

“If you purchase the Minecraft National Park, the net proceeds from the world will go directly to The Nature Conservancy, helping them in their mission to create a more sustainable future for our planet!” the official blogpost wrote.

As the name suggests, the Minecraft National Park itself is made to spread awareness among people. Featuring ranger stations, visitor’s centres and wildlife crossing, the DLC brings what The Nature Conservancy virtually.

“You can visit ranger stations, explore visitor’s centers, and interact with features like wildlife crossings, real-life constructions that allow animals to cross roads safely while keeping their habitats connected,” the official post added.

Raising environmental awareness through Minecraft

One reason to do this in Minecraft is simply because it fits the narrative. Minecraft is widely popular for its nature theme and different biomes. Another reason is that majority of the player base are children and teaching them to preserve nature early on can be very impactful in future. Video games like Minecraft seems to be the best way to do it.

Microsoft already donated $100,000 to The Nature Conservancy during the 15th anniversary of the game. Players can now also chip in with each sale of the map, providing the foundation $3.75 with a minimum aggregate royalty payment of $50,000.

Developed by 50 people, the DLC is relatively cheap and can be purchased for 830 Minecoins. While it will likely remain in the game and can be purchased anytime, the proceeds from all sale will go to The Nature Conservancy between October 30, 2024 and January 30, 2025.
