Game of Thrones: Kingsroad recently launched in early access with multiple different editions, however, the biggest fears of fans are seemingly true. The game is reportedly filled with microtransactions and restrictive gameplay design which is usually how mobile games operate and has led to a lot of negative reviews on Steam.
Developed by Netmarble, the game is an online RPG title with an original story revolving around Westeros. While the players do not have complaints regarding the gameplay and even praised the vast open world of Kingsroad, the gamep is where many people are upset with the game.
Game of Thrones: Kingsroad uses a virtual currency called ‘RP coins’ which allow players to claim rewards from bosses as many would have guessed, if the amount reaches zero, players will have to wait for it to recharge for a while.
This is where the second complaint starts. Apart from waiting for RP coins to recharge, players can purchase them making progress for those who pay much faster, basically creating a pay-to-win situation. This isn't something new as many mobile games implement gameplay systems like these. There is also no item transfer between characters and players have to pay to increase inventory size.

PC gamers aren’t big fans of microtransactions
Sadly, people who play on PC do not like unnecessary microtransactions that can give players an advantage and called it a mobile game through-and-through, which the game actually is as Game of Thrones: Kingsroad will also launch on mobile devices. One can guess where the attention is towards as mobile games ropes in a lot of revenue.
Players can still get everything for free with a long enough grind, however, they argue that it does not matter when someone can pay real-world currency and make all of their hard work look futile in a matter of minutes. As of now, the game launched to a little over 2,000 concurrent players with early access sales presumed to reach around 15,000.
