Formsoftware’s newest game is once again Elden Ring, as revealed during the Game Awards, and will be releasing next year. Named Elden Ring Nightreign, the game is a co-op-focused entry set within the same universe. Initially, people mistook this to be another DLC, but the game will be a standalone gaming experience.

This was yet another big announcement at the 2024 Game Awards, which people had no idea about. In a previous interview, game director Hidetaka Miyazaki told me that Formsoftware is not making an Elden Ring 2 but does have future plans for the franchise; however, no one was expecting them to reveal it this soon. The game is set to land in 2025.
The trailer itself created immense hype, especially for fans of souls games, as it featured some familiar faces from older Fromsoft games, including Firekeeper and It was also revealed that while the game can be played solo, it was made as a co-op experience with friends.
It is also important to note that Elden Ring Nightreign does not have Hidetaki Miyazaki on the helm; instead, Junya Ishizaki is heading the game this time. Previously, Ishizaki was in charge of combat during the development of Bloodborne, Dark Souls 3, and Elden Ring, so players can expect some satisfying boss fights.
In an interview with Famitsu, Ishizaki also revealed that he was approached by Miyazaki to try and be a game director. At the time he was working on Elden Ring and thought large-scale battles would be interesting, and thus came the idea for Nightreign.
The gameplay is also completely different, and the objective here is to survive and try to defeat the final boss in three days. Players can choose a boss they want to fight and will be given three (in-game) days to prep and level up and drop in a random setting each session.
