FromSoftware has been making video games for a long time, however, it’s safe to say that most gamers nowadays know them for their Souls games. This isn’t surprising considering how popular these games are. The incredible set pieces, ever-increasing difficulty, and mysterious story seem to be the formula to keep gamers hooked.
It is something that even the entire gaming industry has adopted creating the term ‘souls-like’ for games with similar themes. However, as with many games FromSoftware titles are also not perfect and people have now listed their list of long-running issues they had with Souls games.

There are some small complaints like the target lock-on due to bugs or quality-of-life features like quest designs. However, some of the most debated topics are replayable bosses, the difficulty, and the ability to pause the game.
The ability to fight a boss again after defeating them is a popular request. Some game mods allow players to respawn bosses like regular enemies, but people want this to be an official integration, especially those who like the vanilla gaming experience.

Do Souls games need a pause button or difficulty?
A pause button in Souls games has been one of the most argued topics with the community seemingly divided over its presence. On one side, people say that Souls games need a pause menu as it is the most harmless thing that can be added. The debate being pausing during a fight will not let players get out of that situation.
On the other side, people argue there is no pause option to increase immersion. Everything is happening in real time forcing players to pay attention, especially during a fight. Another debated topic is the difficulty of these games as Souls games can take some time to master for an average player.
The ability to change difficulty is also a popular request, but it is one of those things that likely won’t happen. As per FormSoftware’s President, Hidetaka Miyazaki, the difficulty is intended meaning players will have to ‘git gud’. Despite all the complaints, the games do sell an increasing number with each release.
