Weeks into the release of Liberty City Preservation Project, the mod has now been taken down on orders from Rockstar Games. The mod added a playable version of Liberty City from GTA 4 inside GTA 5 with improved visuals, lighting, and even functioning day-to-day scenarios and became popular among players.

“Hey all. Sadly, as I'm sure you're aware, the Liberty City Preservation Project has unfortunately been discontinued. While the mod has NOT been DMCA'd by T2 or Rockstar, all parties involved, including World Travel, mutually agreed to a friendly takedown on the Travel team’s side, resulting in the indefinite removal of the LCPP. There is no bad blood between World Travel and Rockstar/Take-Two,” the official statement said.

The work of the Liberty City Preservation Project started back in 2018 and was quite ambitious. Adding an entire city with a functioning metro, NPCs, traffic, and everything else was quite an achievement. The team did say they would pursue their passion for modding the GTA series, but all the hard work gone in a few weeks might have come as a punch in the gut.

Fans not happy with Rockstar Games

As one can expect, the removal of the mod has left many people confused and angry. While there was no specific reason revealed for the removal of Liberty City Mod, it might have to do with the mod policy of Rockstar Games as revealed by Eurogamer.

As per their policy, Rockstar, or rather the parent company, Take-Two, will not take legal action against the third-party mods if they are made for single-player, are non-commercial, and respect the intellectual property (IP) rights.

However, the mod will not be allowed if it affects any online functionality of the game, impacts multiplayer or online services, or uses things from other IPs, including the one from Rockstar Games themselves. Since Liberty City is from GTA 4 and added into a different game (GTA 5), the company may have decided to have it removed, despite how much the developers themselves have loved the mod.
