Fortnite is finally back on iOS devices after getting kicked out in August 2020. All these years, the game has grown bigger, and so has its fan base. Especially in the US, where online gaming has grown into one of the biggest categories of entertainment and playing.

Apple banned Fortnite from their devices after the game developer refused a 30% transaction fee for in-game payments like player skins, Guns and much more. Any application inside the App Store needs to pay a 30% commission fee. But in-game payments are very different and are done through a third-party app. As Fortnite used a different third-party app for payments, it refused to give the 30% fee to the iPhone maker. So Apple banned the Fortnite App from their devices, and it triggered an infamous legal battle between Apple and Epic.

Apple vs Epic Games Legal Battle History

The legal battle started back in August 2020, and now the US Court has slammed Apple for its restrictions over payments through external websites. Epic Games wanted its app payment option for iOS devices. The court has refused but asked Apple to let the third-party payment apps on iOS devices.

Fortnite makers won the legal battle against Apple, and are back on iOS devices after 1741 days. Epic Games founder Tim Sweeney said, “If Apple extends the court's friction-free, Apple-tax-free framework worldwide, we'll return Fortnite to the App Store worldwide and drop current and future litigation on the topic.”

He also announced the good news to his fans, posting, “We are back fam.” The game will once again be available in the US market for Apple devices. Previously, both brands went for legal war in Europe, and there too Epic Games triumphed. As they are now returning to the US, they are now offering a 20% bonus for players who make purchases through their payment system rather than using Apple’s. So we expect more of such kind of battle between Apple and Epic Games over payments and transaction fee collections in the future.
