After a five-year-long battle with the ios maker Apple, Epic Games has now achieved success, and their popular mobile game Fortnite will arrive on iPhones very soon. The legal battle between Epic Games and Apple started when the game developer refused to give a 30% commission to the ios maker for in-game purchases.

Apple Store charges Apps a 30% share for being part of their list. But in-game purchases are done between Gamers and game developers regarding new skins, equipment, dresses, and much more. As Fortnite was in the Apple ecosystem, they demanded a 30% share for in-game purchases, which the developer refused.

So they were removed from the Apple Store in 2020, and the developer went to the US court to have a legal battle against Apple regarding their store policies and practices. As the US courts' verdict came in favour of Fortnite’s developer, Apple are now forced to allow the game back in their app store.

Apple to allow Fortnite in iOS

They will now allow links and buttons related to in-game purchases without getting any commissions from the game developers or gamers. The transactions will also be done with the help of a third-party system, and Apple has to comply with the regulations. Previously, Apple fought the same battle against Epic Games in the European Union and lost the verdict. The same happened in the US, and now the Apple gamers can enjoy the most popular FPS game in the US.

Epic Games' CEO Tim Sweeney has said, he has submitted the Fortnite game for review, and very soon players can enjoy the game in the App Store. We still need to wait for Apple’s approval, as they could again start new legal issues against Epic Games. Apple has also demanded to stop the external payment methods which are against their business rules. They requested permission to charge fees for in-game purchases through external links and more control over these payments.
