The first update for Minecraft in 2025 is here, or at least what’s to come for players to check out in the test in Java snapshot and Bedrock beta. Notable changes include variations across Pigs and the ambiance across different biomes like falling leaves, leaf litter, and wildflowers to make the world much more immersive.
Since these changes are not available in the main game, players enable the Minecraft Java snapshot or Preview in case of Bedrock edition from the launcher. The goal here is to provide feedback on the update and report bugs and glitches for a smooth transition into a regular update. Let’s check out what’s new!
New Pig variants
There are two new Pig variants with the update. Usually, the pigs were all pink, but now players will be able to spot ‘the cold pig and the warm pig’ in the game. As the name suggests, both of these new pigs can be found in their respective biomes. The warm pig is rust-brown and can be found across sandy biomes while the cold pig is much lighter in tone and will be present only in colder biomes.

Biome Ambience
To make the biome more life-like, the devs have added ambiance in the form of falling leaves from trees that will match the biome. This gives a cinematic experience in the game further elevate the exploration bit in Minecraft which players do a lot.
There’s also Leaf litter scattered around forests which will make crunchy noises while walking over them. Along with them are wildflowers across the meadows, birch forests, and old-growth birch forests. These can be used to make dye.
There’s also a quality-of-life update for the lodestone recipe making it much easier to remember and craft. Simply put an iron ingot instead of a nether ingot around chiseled bricks and voila! Never forget your way home despite exploring to the ends of the world you created. While these changes may look small, they are made quite regularly and can quickly stack up.
