Far Cry 7 is among some of the games that were reported to be in development at Ubisoft last month. While the announcement regarding the same is yet to be made, the report suggested that the game will be released sometime in 2026, as Ubisoft’s current focus is on the Assassin's Creed Shadows launch.
Ubisoft has been under a lot of pressure lately and to improve the situation, the company has opted to bring back some of the beloved games as remakes or new entries. Assassin’s Creed Shadows is set to release on March 20th; however, two games in the Far Cry are also in development.
It is unknown which one of these games is Far Cry 7, but Ubisoft is definitely trying to do something new with the franchise. The upcoming Far Cry games will not be open-world; however, that does not mean they will be completely linear. Codenamed Blackbird and Maverick, one is an extraction shooter while another is a single-player story game with a time limit on story mode.
New Far Cry game may not see the light till next year
Since the main focus is on the new Assassin’s Creed game, the Far Cry titles may be on the back burner for now. However, a report from Insider Gaming’s Tom Henderson reveals Ubisoft is set to release these and other games by the end of 2026.
2025 has just begun, meaning there is still a chance that gamers might see a new Far Cry game late this year since companies usually let one game run its course and release another after a few months. However, there’s a lot of uncertainty due to the GTA 6 release. Take-Two recently revealed no delay, which makes the Far Cry 7 release likely for next year.
