In-game tournaments inside Fortnite provide a great way to for players to try and compete for rewards or even reach some of the biggest events, including FNCS. The game features different events from time to time with varying rewards.
However, these tournaments have long been region-locked, only allowing players from that particular region to compete. For example, players competing from the North American region were not able to queue up in the European region

All this changed after Epic Games decided to remove the regional restriction from these tournaments. The announcement was done via the official Fortnite Competitive account on X. “Effective now (apart from FNCS) we will be removing region lock from all tournaments,” the post said.

Effective now (apart from FNCS) we will be removing region lock from all tournaments.
This also applies to this season's ongoing tournaments. If you previously played in one region for an event, you can now play in other regions in that event.

Oftentimes, players miss the events due to different time zones. This change will apply to both Solo and team events and will allow them to play and compete how and when they want. However, as the post mentioned, this will not be allowed in tournaments for the FNCS, which is understandable as the FNCS is the biggest Fortnite esports tournament bringing top players from different regions to a single stage.
While Epic Games did not list the reason behind this change, it does seem to be catering towards the popular demand from the players. The community also had no idea if this would be a temporary or a permanent chance, however, they did appreciate the move as it provided more opportunities to compete and win rewards.
