Epic Games takes legal action against Fortnite cheater

Cheating in video games is never ok, more so if taking part in an esports tournament, as getting caught will have players permanently banned. It can also come with some legal complications, something that previously happened with a Fortnite player. Epic Games took legal action against them, seized all the prize money, and made them make an apology video.

“Cheating is never a winning strat. We took legal action against a player who shared their account to unfairly qualify for FNCS. Now they’re banned from Fortnite tournaments forever and their undeserved prize money was donated to charity,” the official announcement from Fortnite Competitive said.

Epic Games warns people not to cheat in Fortnite

This action from Epic stands out as a warning for people who cheat in their games, directly or indirectly. In this case, RepulseGod had another person log in to their account and play for the tournament, however, other ways of cheating like using hacks, etc. can also face the same consequences.

Taking some strict action against cheaters also discourages others from trying out something similar and serves as a way to keep cheaters/hackers in check. This isn’t also the first time Epic Games has taken some drastic measures. A few years back, a popular content creator from FaZe Clan, ‘Jarvis,’ was permanently banned from Fortnite for showing off cheats. There are a few other similar cases.

Fans and Fortnite content creators praise Epic Games

The announcement was praised by many, including Nickmercs, CouRageJD, and SypherPK, along with other fans and content creators alike. Everyone praised Epic Games for this decision and called it an effective way to lower the number of cheaters. Many even suggested Activision should do the same in Call of Duty if they are not able to build a proper anti-cheat.
