A year ago, Disney made a huge bet on Epic Games with a $1.5 billion investment. This was the beginning of a new partnership between the two that promised players various collabs, and an overall expansive universe. Now, a year after the investment, the Fortnite X Disney collab has moved into the stable branch of the game.

Over the last year, Fortnite players have seen various collabs with Disney IPs last year including The Incredibles, Star Wars, Marvel, a lot of Marvel, and more. However, a lot of other things promised previously may be introduced in future updates.

Fortnite X Disney collab moves to stable build

At the time of collab, Disney revealed a completely new universe in the game. “In addition to being a world-class games experience and interoperating with Fortnite, the new persistent universe will offer a multitude of opportunities for consumers to play, watch, shop, and engage with content, characters, and stories from Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, Avatar, and more,” Disney said last year.

There was also a mention of players being able to create their own universes from Disney. As of now, players can use the Unreal Editor For Fortnite to create custom maps and game modes. Likely, Disney was talking about the something similar using their own IPs. Moving things into stable branch may soon allow players to do the same properly without any issues.

Why did Disney choose Fortnite?

Even before Disney got involved with Epic Games, they had multiple collabs. In-fact, Fortnite was already popular for its massive collabs with other popular IPs, something which hasn’t been done across any other online game on this scale.

Fortnite also boasts some of the biggest player base, esports scene, and is also family friendly, something which Disney prefers a lot. With everything the company wanted in a single place, it makes sense to bet big on an already popular IP, although details regarding what’s planned are scarce.
