Last year, Epic Games gave away 89 free games with a total redemption value of over $2,000. This was revealed in its 2024 year-in-review and almost 600 million games were claimed by people. That’s a lot of money spent on giveaways and while one can argue the games were likely purchased in bulk, no one will argue against a free game.

The 2024 lineup included some incredible games like The Outer Worlds, Dark and Darker, Ghostrunner 2, Dredge, Sifu, and plenty more that people can play for the entire year. 2025 is also looking to be the same, with Epic Games planning to continue free game giveaways, which isn’t that big of a surprise now that the company is financially sound.

“Our Free Games Program has continued to deliver PC favourites to new audiences for the 5th year running. Epic players stocked their libraries with over $2,000 worth of great PC titles across 89 giveaways. The program is not slowing down and will continue in 2025, on both PC and mobile,” the official statement read.

Epic Games also plans to expand across mobile platforms

Last year, Apple was forced to open up its restrictions in the EU region, allowing Epic Games to introduce its digital store on iOS. The Android app is available globally but the success with the iOS launch was a big win for Epic Games last year.

Moving forward to 2025, the mobile app will also remain a big part of Epic’s development roadmap. The mobile store also provides free games and it is likely to get the same treatment this year with how much success the company saw. More details on this will be announced later on.

Epic Games vs. Steam, which is better?

There has been a huge debate regarding the best shopfront between Steam and Epic Games as others struggle to make their way up. There are advantages to each platform and players should choose what they like; however, Steam currently has better/more payment options and better customer support, which may be the reason why many people love using the platform. Although, deep down, everyone knows GOG is best.
