The rivalry between Steam and Epic Games Store is a long-running one. Sadly, this results in some games remaining as Epic exclusives, either for a duration or for eternity. In the case of Alan Wake 2, it’s the latter as CEO, Tim Sweeney, confirmed that the game will not be coming to Steam.

Developed by Remedy Entertainment and published by Epic Games, Alan Wake 2 is another masterpiece in the Horror series. The game launched for PC on the Epic Games Store as an exclusive title back in 2023 and while many bought the game right away, others waited for a Steam release. Sadly, all the wait might be for nothing.

Alan Wake to remain Epic Games exclusive

In response to an email query regarding the availability of Alan Wake 2 on Steam, Sweeney responded, “It’s not coming to Steam”. The statement itself is self-explanatory for gamers waiting for a Steam release, it’s not going to happen.

Many fans expressed their frustration on this decision calling it a 'bad decision'. Most of the games usually have a year of exclusive deals after which, the developers usually release the game on Steam. This is because Steam, at the moment, remains the largest PC gaming platform.

FAQ

Why is Alan Wake 2 not on Steam?

While developed by Remedy, Alan Wake 2 was funded by Epic Games who are also the publishers for the game. Both Epic Games and Steam are competitors, as such, the decision to keep the game exclusive to their platform isn’t surprising to bring more users. Valve also takes a 30% cut of each Steam sale which Epic Games is against.

What Does This Mean for Steam and Epic Games Store?

For Steam, the exclusivity deal does not mean much, although, gamers will have to make a purchase elsewhere. People also argue that Epic Games may be losing out on some extra revenue by keeping Alan Wake exclusive as despite a hefty cut, Steam provides a much larger audience.
