The Shadow of The Erdtree DLC for Elden Ring has now reached mixed reviews on Steam, as players are now complaining that the expansion is “too hard”. The debate regarding Fromsoft games and their difficulty has going on for years.

This time, however, many are complaining regarding the difficulty spike in Elden Ring. The preparation for DLC wasn’t enough. Players who started on NG+ seem to have it the worst, as enemies are even stronger, making players face a new challenge.

Many are being sent running by the tutorial boss. “Ok, it wasn't just me. I haven't played Elden Ring for more than 30 minutes in over two years and was excited about the DLC. But this dude took me 40 minutes to finally beat,” one of the players said.

The developers and reviewers also previously mentioned several times that the Shadow of The Erdtree is going to be rough as it scales with the player. A majority of the players seem to have taken the warning lightly and have faced the consequences of their actions. Popular content creator Mightykeef also memes the decisions made by other players before regretting them.

People are even memeing those who previously called out Eurogamer for their Elden Ring DLC review, calling it hard. “They should make it easier because everyone is mad their +200 level character can't 1 shot Mesmer,” one person said.

Elden Ring devs reach out to help players

The DLC was so hard that even the Elden Ring devs and publishers publisher stepped in to tell the players what they needed to do as Bandai Namco in their recent tweet wrote, “This is a suggestion to level up your Scadutree Blessing”.

The Scadutree Blessing is a new mechanic that is used to balance out the new Shadow of The Erdtree DLC. It allows players to gain damage multiplier and damage negation and many players ignored the Blessing thinking their levelled Vigor and endurance were enough to get through.

"I think Elden Ring is in a weird position where it has attracted a wide audience, but it's designed for a niche audience that enjoys the process of figuring out the fights step by step and slowly but steadily improving on each attempt," one of the players said.

DLCs made by Fromsoftware have always been more difficult than the base game, and it is the same for Elden Ring DLC too. However, not everyone is having trouble now as many have figured out what to do, or are using Summons to get through the difficult part.
