The upcoming DLC for Elden Ring, Shadow of the Golden Tree, is set to release in June and will reportedly be the one and only DLC expansion for the game. This was further made clear by Hidetaka Miyazaki in a recent interview with Campfire Camp.
Elden Ring was a major success in 2022 and earned the game of the year title, beating the likes of God of War. After over a year-long wait, fans were teased with the new DLC with the reveal done in 2024 hyping the community for release.
Miyazaki confirmed that there will be no more expansion to the game, which comes as a heartbreak for many fans, considering older Souls games have received multiple DLCs. The reason for no multiple DLCs as per Miyazaki is better storytelling.
The game is meant to be explored in order to have the best experience of the huge world Fromsoft made. Making small DLCs will take away the fun of exploring, so the DLC had to be big. In a sense, the players might be getting their multiple DLCs in just one.
All is not lost
While the game will not receive any further DLC expansions, a new game in the Elden Ring universe is not ruled out. Answering a question, Miyazaki said there are always possibilities for a new game in the IP. He further talks about how the DLC may answer a few of the mysteries but also create new ones.
He said that players will meet new NPCs with story quest lines, while also not giving much in spoilers to keep the experience fresh and allow players to uncover the story by themselves.
Shadow of the Golden Tree is already shaping up to be the biggest Fromsoft expansion, with people speculating that it will be around the size of half of the game, considering how long it was in the making compared to their other expansions.
