EA recently increased the total team count at the ALGS Year 5 LAN event to 160 teams. While this may sound like a good opportunity for more teams to compete, the community is raising a lot of issues, including things related to travel and accommodation expenses. The company will be covering travel for all teams but at the expense of accommodation.

This has sparked a major backlash in the community, although there are mixed views in this regard. The increase in the number of teams also means a lot more expense in providing accommodation as each team consists of three players and a coach. This adds up to 640 people, which isn’t a small number but shouldn't be a huge concern for EA.

Apex Legends community in a rift

Many argue that EA should take responsibility for the entire situation as it is their official tournament. The decision to increase the team count came from the company. While more teams will be getting a chance to play, the extra slots will not matter if many of them can’t even secure a place to stay, as many teams will be from different countries with different financial conditions.

A few other says that both traveling and accommodation expenses for over 600 people will be too much for EA. However, the argument lacks structure as EA is a multi-billion dollar company, and something like this should not be an issue. A similar controversy occurred previously with teams spending more than what they would earn from the tournament, which makes the whole thing pointless.

Pros suggest dedicated team skin bundles to raise funds

Cosmetic bundles are a great way to support esports organisations and teams. A lot of games like Counter-Strike and Valorant. Even Apex Legends has team bundles, and Alliance Hakis suggested that something similar can be done for the Open LAN. This will fix most of the issues and allow teams to attend the LAN without any problems.
