How did Balatro become so popular?

Many people might be wondering, What is Balatro? A game that seemed to come out of nowhere. It’s a card game best described as rougelike deck-builder with some insane gameplay mechanics that will leave multiple real-world card games to shame.

What’s impressive is that the game was made by a single developer. Not only does the game feature the regular card deck, but it also adds other variants like tarot cards, planet cards, and more that give different abilities. Getting these cards will make every game unique for the player.

In the short snap of its release, the game became extremely popular among players who like card games thanks to its complex yet satisfying and addictive gameplay loop. Balatro has also done various collabs with other popular games like The Witcher 3, Among Us, and Vampire Survivors, adding their special cards inside the game.

Most recently, Patch 2.2 for Cyberpunk 2077 also brought a secret Balatro quest. A new announcement also revealed more collaborations with new games featuring card packs for Cult of the Lamb, Warframe, Shovel Knight, and more. At the moment, LocalThunk does not plan on stopping the updates any time soon.
