Apple is said to be working on a new app/store which is fully dedicated to gaming and will be featuring all gaming apps exclusively on that particular store. The news comes following the release of iOS 18 and will come as a future update as a new feature and sounds like an attempt to streamline gaming on iOS devices.
The report came from 9to5mac, who reported that they received the news from reliable sources. This new app will combine the functionality of the App Store and Game Center but will not be replacing the Game Centre as reported by the outlet.
It is likely that all games from the App Store may find a new home with this alternative app. Furthermore, the Apple Arcade subscription may also move into this platform. People who get a game or purchase a subscription will have everything available in one place.
The goal is to streamline the user experience by bringing everything game-related in one place, including, a friend list, play functionality, challenges, leaderboards, and achievements and is dubbed as the Xbox app for iOS devices.

Why a new separate app focused towards games?
The reasoning is quite obvious, as gaming is rapidly taking over the market as a popular hobby, with more and more people spending time playing games, especially casual ones. As such, having a specific place with more ease of searching for games and friends to compete against isn’t a bad idea.
Furthermore, many PC games like Resident Evil are also being ported to iOS devices due to improvements in mobile chips. Having these in the new app will have more people stumble upon it with more potential sales as the series did not sell that well despite being bestsellers on PC, although store visibility wasn’t the only reason.
