The company whose Switch 2 replica has been circulating on social media since early January 2025, Genki, has reportedly been confronted by Nintendo's lawyers. The dummy device, which is thought to be an accurate representation of the Switch successor, may have drawn the attention of Nintendo's legal team because of the circumstances surrounding it's creation.

Genki is a company that produces accessories and consumer electronics. A duplicate of the Switch 2 was brought to the 2025 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, where it garnered a lot of attention. Because of the tremendous amount of buzz this move created, Nintendo even went so far as to publicly emphasize that Genki's Switch 2 reproduction which was not authentic. The fact that this was just stating the obvious made it remarkable because it was the very few time that Nintendo had ever commented on any kind of product leak.

The Japanese gaming giant, however, may have gone beyond simply criticizing Genki's publicity gimmick. According to French writer Julien Tellouck, who cited a statement from an unidentified Genki representative, Nintendo's attorneys have approached the business that created the Switch 2 duplicate on the CES 2025 showroom floor. The official who spoke with Tellouck stated that they think Nintendo is safe from legal ramifications because the peripheral manufacturer did not sign a non-disclosure agreement with the corporation, as reported by The Game Post.

Nintendo set to launch console in March

However, according to social media posts from CES 2025 attendees, Genki left the trade fair one day early on January 10. The primary matter that might have motivated Nintendo's lawyers to inquire and consequently caused Genki to close its CES 2025 display before the conclusion of the show relates to the conditions under which the accessory manufacturer's replica was made. In particular, Numerama, a French publication, said that a Genki official claimed that the company's dummy gadget was based on an actual Switch 2 model that was bought illegally.

Although this would explain why Genki appears to know so much about the Switch 2, it might also expose the business to legal action. Despite its reputation for being litigious, it is currently unknown if Nintendo is indeed considering suing Genki for its Switch 2 imitation. Nintendo has already stated that it will formally unveil its upcoming console by March 31 at the latest.
