The AMD RX 9070 series graphics cards are set to launch in March 2025. The news was previously revealed by VP & GM ‘David McAfee’ and now confirmed by the CEO of AMD, Dr. Lisa Su, during the Q4 2024 earnings call. Along with the release confirmation, she also claimed that the new GPU will bring 4K gaming.

Over the last few years, AMD has struggled to match its rival Nvidia in the GPU market. “In Gaming Graphics, revenue declined year over year, as we accelerated channel sellout in preparation for the launch of our next-gen Radeon 9000 series GPUs,” she said.

However, the claims of 4K gaming do bring an interesting aspect for the upcoming Radeon GPUs, especially after everyone thought the company was backing down from enthusiast-grade GPUs. “Our focus with this generation is to address the highest volume portion of the enthusiast gaming market with our new RDNA 4 architecture,” she added.

RX 9070 to support 4K gaming

The RX 9070 or the 9000 series of graphics cards use the new RDNA 4 architecture, however, the performance and benchmarks are yet to be revealed. RX 9070 and RX 9070 XT will be the first GPUs to launch which will reportedly feature better ray tracing and “4K gaming”.

“RDNA 4 delivers significantly better rate tracing performance and adds support for AI-powered upscaling technology that will bring high-quality 4K gaming to mainstream players when the first Radeon 9070 series GPUs go on sale in early March,” Lisa Su said.

With the GPU segment lagging behind the competition, it’s hard to believe players will be getting a true 4K gaming experience. Likely the RX 9070 may be using FSR 4 upscaling to make it happen, especially if the card is targeting the Nvidia RTX 5070 or 5060 ti market, but only the benchmarks will tell the full story.

What is the price for the RX 9070 series of GPUs?

Various leaks reported that the RX 9070 was planned to be released with a $749 price tag while the RX 9070 XT at $899. However, AMD exec, Frank Azor, denied these prices and revealed this was never the plan. This sounds true as the card is expected to compete with the RTX 5070 and will likely cost a bit less to increase competition. Perhaps a $650 to $700, but more details are expected soon this month.
