Sony has introduced a groundbreaking update for its PlayStation Portal, adding support for Cloud Streaming. Previously, this handheld device allowed users to stream games only from their PlayStation 5 via Wi-Fi. Now, thanks to a new system update, users can stream select PS5 titles directly from the PlayStation Plus Game Catalog, expanding its functionality significantly.

The update, currently in its Beta phase, is available exclusively for PlayStation Plus Premium subscribers. "Since Cloud Streaming (Beta) on PS Portal is still an experimental offering, the features available during the beta period may change over time and may not reflect the final experience," Sony mentioned in its blog post.

Once fully implemented, the Cloud Streaming feature will grant access to a curated library of 120 PS5 titles from the PS Plus Game Catalog. Popular games like Ghost of Tsushima, Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Monster Hunter Rise, and Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart are among the options available for streaming. For an optimal experience, Sony recommends an internet speed of at least 7Mbps for 720p resolution and 13Mbps for 1080p streaming, with games running at up to 60fps.

What is the price of the PlayStation Portal in India?

However, this update does come with some limitations. Users cannot stream PS4 or PS3 titles, nor access several PlayStation Plus features such as Game Trials, party voice chat, 3D audio, or in-game purchases. Child accounts are also excluded from using Cloud Streaming. Additionally, the rollout is restricted to specific regions, including the US, UK, Canada, and several European countries. Unfortunately, Indian users will have to wait longer to experience this feature.

Priced at ₹22,999 in India, the PlayStation Portal, released last year, is gaining more value with this update. While still in its experimental stage, the addition of Cloud Streaming positions the device as a versatile option for gamers seeking flexibility and mobility in accessing their favourite PS5 titles.
