Mumbai Indians Women crushed Gujarat Giants Women by a 5-wicket margin in the 5th game of the ongoing Women’s Premier League 2025 (WPL 2025). Both teams took on each other in the WPL 2025 fixture at the Kotambi Stadium in Vadodara on Tuesday. It was a crucial game to win for MI-W to avoid the second successive defeat in the tournament.
MI-W skipper Harmanpreet Kaur won the toss and asked GG-W to bat first; MI-W’s bowling attack proved their skipper’s decision to bowl first right to all extents. They bundled out the Giants Women at the score of just 120 runs in the allotted 20 overs. Harleen Deol and Kashvee Gautam scored 32 and 20 runs, respectively to take GG-W above the 100+ total.
Star batting all-rounder Hayley Matthews bowled the most effective and economical spell of the entire game. She scalped 3 wickets at just 16 runs in four overs. Besides her, star all-rounder Nat Sciver-Brunt and Amelia Kerr also claimed 2 wickets each. Shabnim Ismail and Amanjot Kaur also claimed a wicket each.
Nat Sciver-Brunt hits GG-W with the double blow
While chasing the target, it was MI-W’s ‘star of the day’ Nat Sciver-Brunt, who showcased her excellence with the bat after scalping 2 wickets with the ball in the first innings. She played a match-winning half-century knock of 57 runs off 39 balls, with 11 fours. Besides her, Amelia Kerr and Hayley Matthews also scored 19 and 17 runs.
Eventually, Mumbai Indians Women successfully chased down the target in 16.1 overs, scoring 122 runs for the loss of 5 wickets and won the game by 5 wickets. Sajeevan Sajana and G Kamalini went unbeaten at the score of 10 and 4 runs, respectively.
Priya Mishra and Kashvee Gautam scalped 2 wickets each for GG-W, alongside a wicket bagged by Tanjuja Kanwar.
With this win against the Giants Women, MI Women have now moved to the second spot on the tournament’s points table, with two points to their name.
