Women’s Premier League 2024 auction is currently underway in Bengaluru, with five teams bidding for top players for the next edition of the tournament. Meanwhile, the inaugural champions Mumbai Indians Women are looking ahead to make a strong squad for the tournament’s third edition in 2025.
In the same line of events, Mumbai Indians Women have roped in the young wicketkeeper-batter G Kamini as a new entry in their squad. The base price for the 16-year-old was only INR 10 lakhs but it was MI management that went to INR 1.60 crores to get the young star onboard.
Here’s a look at the short but impressive journey of G Kamini
G Kamini’s professional cricketing career in the Indian domestic circuit started with her debut for South Zone in the Senior Women Inter Zonal Multi-Day Trophy 2024 earlier this year. Later, she played for India Women Under-19 against Pakistan Women Under-19 in the Women’s Under-19 T20 Asia Cup.
Kamini opened the innings for India Women U-19 in the game against Pakistan Women U-19 and played a brilliant unbeaten knock of 44 runs off just 29 balls, hitting 4 fours and three sixes. Her knock played a decisive role in helping India to win the game by a massive margin of 9 wickets against the arch-rivals.
Now, the 16-year-old young sensation from Tamil Nadu will play for Mumbai Indians Women in the next edition of the Women’s Premier League 2024. The MI camp might utilize her in the role of wicketkeeper-batter or solely an opening batter if it comes to including her in the playing XI.
Besides Kamini, some other new buys of Mumbai Indians Women in the WPL 2025 player auction are Nadine de Klerk and Sanskrit Gupta.
