Gujarat Titans climbed to the top of the table in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season on Wednesday. Shubman Gill and his side coasted to a comprehensive win over Rajasthan Royals (RR) to win their fourth game in succession. Shimron Hetmyer waged the lone battle with the bat as he top scored for RR with 52 runs from 32 balls.

Hetmyer came to the crease at the fall of Dhruv Jurel for five runs when he holed to Sai Sudharsan off Rashid Khan. The West Indian star, along with RR captain Sanju Samson, then added 48 runs for the fifth wicket to give his team a chance. Just as the stand was starting to look dangerous, Samson was out for 41 and was followed by the wicket of Shubham Dubey for one run.

There was some late hope for RR when Hetmyer and Archer added 25 runs for the seventh wicket. Prasidh Krishna ended those hopes when he got the wickets of Archer and Hetmyer in the space of three balls to swing the game in his team’s favour. Krishna ended the game with figures of 3/24 from his four overs.

In the end, the Titans won the game by a massive margin of 58 runs and go top of the table. Royals, on the other hand, will stay seventh in the table and hope to rediscover their form ahead of their next game against Royal Challengers Bengaluru at home on Sunday. Gujarat Titans will next travel to Lucknow to take on the Super Giants at the Ekana Stadium on Saturday.

Sai Sudharsan’s pivotal knock helps GT claim massive win

Young batting sensation Sai Sudharsan was the man of the hour as he scored yet another fifty in the current IPL 2025 season. The left-handed batter didn’t lose the chance to put the RR bowlers under pressure with his sensational knock of 82. Sudharsan’s best shot of the day was the ramp shot for six that was played against Tushar Deshpande.

Jofra Archer was at his aggressive best, taking 1/30 from his four overs and bowling with great pace. Tushar Deshpande and Maheesh Theekshana picked up two wickets each from their four overs but conceded a combined 107 runs that came to hurt the Royals. Sandeep Sharma bowled four overs and picked the wicket of Sherfane Rutherford for seven runs.

RR captain Sanju Samson expressed his disappointment at the end of the game as he said, “We gave away 15-20 runs extra in the bowling. When we needed momentum, we lost wickets. With Hettie, sixes and fours kept coming. But I lost my wicket and that's where we lost the game. The way Jofra started was good; he picked up Shubman's wicket. Then we went off plan. We will have to look at that tomorrow.”
