World Champions Team India arrived in India on Thursday (July 4) after being stranded in Barbados for three days due to Hurricane Beryl. Rohit Sharma and Co received a rousing reception at the Delhi airport as a massive crowd flocked to welcome the Men in Blue after their historic win in the 2024 T20 World Cup.

The team was hosted for a special breakfast meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi at his residence before they arrived in Mumbai for the celebrations. They took a victory parade in an open bus along Marine Drive to the iconic Wankhede Stadium. A huge sea of ​​enthralled fans took over the streets to witness the historic moment.

The winners were felicitated at the Wankhede Stadium with a prize money of Rs 125 crores. The likes of Indian captain Rohit Sharma, Player of the Final Virat Kohli and Player of the Tournament Jasprit Bumrah got a chance to express their emotions after winning the second T20 World Cup title.

For a moment I thought is it going to slip away again? - Virat Kohli 

Invited to the stage, Kohli was overwhelmed by the cheers of the Indian fans. He acknowledged the support of beloved fans who gathered for the celebrations before talking about the tournament.

"What has happened has been phenomenal. As I said the final day in itself was truly special. I thought for a moment is it going to slip away again? And then what happened in those last 5 overs was special,” Kohli said.

The ace cricketer also praised Bumrah for his stellar effort throughout the tournament. "There was one guy who kept bringing us back into games again and again and again and again in this tournament. What he did bowling 2 out of those last 5 overs... was phenomenal,” he added.

This trophy is for the entire nation - Rohit Sharma 

On behalf of the team, the Indian captain thanked each and every fan for their warm welcome. He also dedicated the trophy to the whole country.

"This trophy is for the entire nation. Along with all the players who have represented the country, we want to dedicate it to our fans, who have waited for 11 years, said Rohit during the event.

“Mumbai never disappoints. We got a solid reception. On behalf of the team, we would like to thank the fans, I am very happy and relieved,” he said.

Rohit heaped massive praise on all-rounder Hardik Pandya for defending 16 runs in the last over. He also spoke about Suryakumar Yadav's title-winning catch to dismiss the dangerous David Miller. 

“Hardik was bowling the final over for us. Hats off to him for bowling that last over. You know, no matter how many runs you need, there is always so much pressure to bowl that over. But hats off to him,” the 37-year-old added.
