'If that happens, we will not regret the night...' - Star batter Suryakumar Yadav opens up about Rohit Sharma's speech prior to T20 World Cup 2024 final

Suryakumar Yadav's match-winning catch to remove David Miller in the last over lives rent-free in the minds of every Indian these days. However, behind that catch and the performance of the entire team, there was a motivational speech given by the skipper Rohit Sharma. Before the start of the match, Rohit talked to the team and gave them the speech that Suryakumar Yadav shared after the game.

"He told us to keep it simple but said, ‘I can’t climb this mountain alone. If I have to reach the peak, I will need everyone’s oxygen. He also said, ‘Whatever you have in your legs, mind and heart, just bring everything to the game. If that happens, we will not regret the night’. We all were moved," said Suryakumar Yadav, as quoted by Indian Express. 

India defeated the South African team by seven wickets to clinch the title after 17 years. Moreover, with the win, three Indian players retired from the T20Is: Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and Ravindra Jadeja. The Proteas qualified for an ICC event's final for the first time but failed to win the trophy.

Rohit Sharma is known for motivating the players really well. Hence, Suryakumar Yadav praised him and acknowledged his efforts for the team. Rohit is someone who likes to stay connected with the team on and off the field. Thus, the players listen to him with the utmost attention. 

"He connects with the players. Off the field, be it in a hotel room, or on the beach, he connects with everyone. So when a crunch situation comes, players know that he (Rohit) will back us. One feels I have to deliver for this man for the confidence and respect he gives to everyone," said Suryakumar Yadav.
