Veteran all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja was disheartened after missing out on a well-deserved century in the first innings of the ongoing India vs Bangladesh first Test. He was dismissed by pacer Taskin Ahmed for 86 on Day 2 (Friday) at the M. A. Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.

Bangladesh bowlers did a brilliant job to restrict the Indian top and middle order. However, Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin made them sweat hard in the scorching Chennai heat as the duo brought the hosts back into the game with a massive seven-wicket stand.

India ended Day 1 on 339-6 with Ashwin completing his century and Jadeja just four runs away from the milestone. Desperately searching for a wicket, Bangladesh came into Day 2 with the right mindset. Taskin welcomed the spin all-rounders with a maiden over and Hasan, the hero of the Bangladesh bowling attack, followed it up with another beautiful over.

On the first ball of the third over, Taskin gave his team a massive breakthrough by removing Jadeja, who failed to add a single run to his overnight score. The right-arm pacer bowled a back-of-the-length delivery that moved slightly away from Jadeja after pitching around the middle stump.

The southpaw tried to get on top of the bounce and nudge it through the off side. However, he only managed to get an outside edge straight to the wicketkeeper Litton Das. Walking back to the pavilion, Jadeja, like most of the fans in the Chepauk stands, looked very disappointed.

Hasan Mahmud’s fifer wraps up Indian innings at 376

Barring Yashasvi Jaiswal (56 off 118), none of the Indian top and middle order managed to put up a decent performance. It was Jadeja and Ashwin who pulled India out of trouble with a 199-run stand. The Bangla pacers managed to wrap up the innings quickly on the second day.

Notably, Hasan Mahmud became the first Bangladesh bowler to grab a fifer in India after taking India’s last wicket (Jasprit Bumrah). Meanwhile, Taskin picked up three wickets and Nahid Rana and Mehidy Hasan Miraz took one wicket each.
