Hot and humid Chennai welcomed India and Bangladesh for the second day of the 1st Test match. Shakib Al Hasan had endured a bad day on the field on the opening day as he was smashed for 50 runs from his 8 overs. Situation didn’t change on Friday as the former Bangladeshi skipper dropped an easy catch.

Taskin Ahmed bowled a short ball to Akash Deep, and the Indian pacer went for a ugly swipe across the line. Akash Deep couldn’t time the ball well and the ball went high up in the air. Shakib Al Hasan tried to get under the ball that was swirling high but couldn’t judge it and dropped an easy catch.

India had begun the day 339/6 with R. Ashwin batting on 102 and Ravindra Jadeja on 86. The two batters had shared a stand of 195 runs for the 7th wicket after coming together with the score reading 144/6.

Meanwhile, Taskin Ahmed got the first wicket of the day when he got the edge of Ravindra Jadeja’s bat for 86. Litton Das took a smart catch to complete his 4th dismissal of the innings. Akash Deep came out played a few good shots before he was dismissed by Taskin for 17.

Former Bangladeshi batter Tamim Iqbal slammed the decision to bring Shakib Al Hasan late into the attack. Speaking to the official broadcasters at the end of the day, the former batter said that the visitors had erred in their decision making.

Tamim Iqbal said. “Bangladesh missed a trick as Shakib should have bowled earlier when the ball was newer. The wicket was damp and he would have got some assistance. In my opinion, he came too late."

Former India opener Aakash Chopra praised R. Ashwin for his knock. During his chat with Jio Cinema, Chopra said, “He lets the ball travel to him, he has only the shots at his disposal when it comes to the back-foot. When it comes to his legs, he often reminds me of VVS Laxman.”

The former India star also said, “But today his driving skills, especially bending his knee and hitting a six against spinners... Jadeja was outstanding, but Ashwin deserves a bit more of credit for today.”
