On the opening day of the first Test match against Sri Lanka in Galle, Bangladesh took the lead thanks to a brilliant century from skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto. Shanto entered the morning session as Bangladesh were 45/3, but he stood strong in front of Lanka’s bowling attack to turn the game in his side. He demonstrated his ability to perform well under pressure by stabilising the innings with maturity with his sixth century in Test cricket and his second against Sri Lanka.
A funny moment also occurred when he was celebrating his century. While celebrating his century, a ball arrives at him quickly; to avoid the ball getting hit, he jumps and later laughs. Mushfiqur Rahim provided Shanto with assistance, and the two of them combined for a dominant partnership of over 190 runs. The 26-year-old hitter stood his ground despite the early wickets.
