The Indian team made it to the final of the Champions Trophy 2025 after beating Australia in the first semi-final of the tournament. Masterful batting by former Indian skipper Virat Kohli helped the team register a close win.
Apart from him, Shreyas Iyer, Varun Chakravarthy, Axar Patel, Hardik Pandya, and KL Rahul also had impactful performances. In fact, it was Rahul who provided the finishing touch with a six.
Despite the star's consistent performances, the decision to frequently move him up and down the batting order has puzzled the fans. Axar Patel has been given the nod to bat at number five over Rahul, who is batting at six in the ongoing tournament.
"What more can I do?" KL Rahul on his spot in the team
KL Rahul has now opened up about the situation that he is in. The 32-year-old revealed that there has always been a question mark about his place in the team despite giving some regular performances. However, he revealed that he has had the backing of the Indian skipper Rohit Sharma.
"Every time I perform in a series and then there's a break from ODI series, ODI cricket and then we come back after four or five months, there's a question mark again about 'oh well, will he play in the XI? Where does he fit?' and sometimes I'm sitting there thinking what more can I do. Everywhere that I've been asked to play, I've played and I feel like I have performed my role. Whatever's been told to me by Rohit [Sharma], Rohit's been the captain for the last four-five years," he said while speaking to Star Sports.
"And whatever he's told me, I feel like I've done that to the best of my ability. And I know that Rohit feels the same and he's always supported me and backed me with that. So, there's that confidence going into game that the captain has my back," he added.
#KLRahul, the man who’s stepped up in every position, always has the team's back. The captain and the whole country are proud of him!#ChampionsTrophyOnJioStar FINAL 👉 SUN, 9th March, 1:30 PM on Star Sports 1, Star Sports 1 Hindi, Star Sports 2 & Sports18-1!
