Former Australian batting stalwart David Warner was in the midst of a hilarious moment that took place on Friday. The incident happened during the Big Bash League 2024/25 game between Sydney Thunder and Hobart Hurricanes. Warner faced up to a delivery that he drove down the ground but his bat broke at the same time.
What made the moment more hilarious was the fact that the broken bat went onto smack Warner on the back of his head. The veteran batter responded with shock as the medical team came out to check on him. While the batter felt the stinging pain of being hit by his own bat, it was hilarious for many who saw the incident happen live.

Sydney Thunder and Hobart Hurricanes came into the game with 9 points each. A win on Friday will put either team at the top of the BBL table with just a few league games left. It was Nathan Ellis who won the toss and chose to bowl first to make use of the better batting conditions later in the day.

Australian batting sensation Sam Konstas could score just four runs off nine balls before losing his wicket. Riley Meredith got the wicket of Konstas caught by Matthew Wade to break the first wicket stand of 20 runs which came inside four overs. Runs were hard to come by Matthew Gilkes became Wade’s second catch to fall to Chris Jordan for nine runs.
David Warner waged a lone battle with the bat as he scored 88 runs from 66 balls and carried his bat through the innings. The 38-year-old displayed great tenacity as he hit seven fours in his knock. The only other batter to support Warner was wicketkeeper Sam Billings.
The English batter scored 28 runs from 15 balls with the help of four hits to the fence. Curiously none of the Sydney Thunder batters were able to hit a six in the 20 overs they batted. The best bowler for the Hurricanes was Riley Meredith with 2/30 from his four overs while Billy Stanlake, Nikhil Chaudhary, and Chris Jordan picked a wicket each.
