South Africa is on the verge of a historic victory after Aiden Markram scored an outstanding century in the WTC final. South Africa's third day got off to a rough start as Josh Hazlewood and Mitchell Starc tormented the Proteas with a 59-run combination for the final wicket. It also assisted Australia in setting a goal of 282 for South Africa to win the World Tennis Championship. Australia was now the clear favorite to win the game, but Markram's innings changed the fate of the match.
In the meantime, Virat Kohli's previous post on Markram following his WTC genius went viral on social media. Kohli praised Markram on X after being impressed by his outstanding 84 in the second innings of the 2018 Test match against Australia in Cape Town. Kohli wrote, "Aiden Markram is a delight to watch!" on Twitter.

Markram took great advantage of the beautiful weather and responded to the Australian pacers by hitting back at a target of 282 runs, which has only been reached at the Lord's twice in cricket history. Batting at the Lord's surface was likely to be difficult because the first two days of the Test match had seen the loss of 28 wickets. However, Markram overcame the odds on Friday by scoring with remarkable accuracy, making history as the first South African to reach the WTC Final century.

With a historic tenth-wicket partnership earlier in the day, Australia's tail reversed the tide. Josh Hazlewood and Mitchell Starc, both half-century heroes, contributed vital runs to raise South Africa's target to an intimidating 282, the joint-highest run chase in WTC Final history. After losing starter Ryan Rickelton early in the innings, the Proteas had a rough start.
