When Virat Kohli saw the Bengaluru stampede, he was "absolutely gutted" because what should have been a joyful, fun-filled day to celebrate the Royal Challengers Bengaluru's (RCB) first IPL trophy instead descended into a deadly event that left 11 people dead and 33 injured. On Wednesday, June 4, Royal Challengers Bengaluru celebrated their IPL 2025 triumph in the city outside the M Chinnaswamy Stadium.
To witness their favorite players and catch a glimpse of the trophy, RCB fans and the Bengaluru crowd took to the streets for the open-bus victory parade, which was originally scheduled to happen but was postponed due to a traffic advisory. On Instagram, Kohli, who led the RCB's lap of honor in front of a crowded stadium, posted the team's official statement along with a personal message expressing his sadness over the terrible event.
"At a loss for words. Absolutely gutted," Virat Kohli wrote with a broken heart emoji. Given the size of the event and the fact that it was taking place during prime office hours on a workday, appropriate preparation, security measures, and traffic diversion were necessary. And outside of M Chinnaswamy Stadium, things took a fatal turn. The squad was promptly transported to the stadium in ordinary buses as soon as the death announcement was made, and the felicitation ceremony was concluded without delay.

In addition, Kohli's former RCB teammate AB de Villiers, who attended the first title celebrations at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, responded to the event by expressing his sympathies for the impacted families. De Villiers posted on X (previously Twitter) her condolences for everyone impacted by today's awful events at the Chinnaswamy stadium.
The Karnataka State Cricket Association, which has come under fire for the way the event was run, has now offered Rs 5 lakh in compensation to each of the families of those killed in the stampede.
