As per reports by Cricbuzz, Head suffered a groin injury at Gabba on Day 5 and is likely to miss out on the Melbourne Test, slated to begin on the 26th of December. "Travis Head has suffered a groin injury; his participation in the next Test is uncertain," read the report.

However, while speaking to Ravi Shastri at the post-match presentation, Head claimed that he should be fine before the next match. "Just a little sore, but I should be fine (before the next game)," he said.

Rain aids India to a draw at the Gabba

India started Day 5 trailing by 193 runs, having avoided follow-on in the dramatic concluding moments on Day 4. Akash Deep's batting heroics helped India reduce their deficit. Eventually, India was bowled out for a score of 260, handing Australia a lead of 185 runs.

The Indian pacers were once again to India's rescue as Bumrah took three wickets, while Deep and Mohammed Siraj took two each to restrict Australia to 89 before they declared the innings.

KL Rahul and Yashasvi Jaiswal came in to bat to try and chase down the target of 275 runs. But rain interrupted the play, as has been the case throughout the game, and the two could only score eight runs. The match was eventually called off with a drawn result.

At the end of the day, all the fans were in for a shock as Ravichandran Ashwin announced his retirement with immediate effect. "This will be my last year as an Indian cricketer in all formats at the international level. I feel there's a little bit of punch left in me as a cricketer, but I'd like to express that, showcase that in club-level cricket," he said.

Ashwin added, "I've had a lot of fun. I have made a lot of memories alongside Rohit and several of my teammates, even though we've lost some of them [to retirements] over the last few years. We're the last bunch of OGs, we can say that. I will be marking this as my date of having played at this level."
