Having missed the shot, India’s pacer saw the ball get nestled inside the top half of his pad. Travis Head who was fielding at short leg expected the batter to lob the ball into his hands. The Australian batter was left angry after Akash Deep threw the ball on the floor in what was an unintentional act. Showing his gentlemanly side, the pacer was quick to say sorry to Head and wicketkeeper Alex Carey.

It took just three overs for Australia to finish India’s innings on the fifth day of third Test match on Wednesday morning. The visitors were bowled out for 260 before heavy rains came out just as Australia were set to come out for their 2nd innings. The match is set to end in a draw and India will head to Melbourne as the happier party with the result in Gabba.

Parthiv Patel praises India’s last wicket pair for their resilience

Former Indian cricket star Parthiv Patel said that India will draw confidence from Gabba heading into the final 2 matches of the series. The 39-year-old praised Akash Deep and Jasprit Bumrah for their gritty final wicket stand that helped save the follow-on.

Parthiv Patel while speaking to CRICBUZZ said, “By avoiding the follow-on, India have given a new twist to the series. There is a belief that India can save the Test from here. The good thing is that the energy (in the Indian team) could change from here. They were in a near-hopeless situation. But, because they managed to save the follow-on, there will be a new kind of energy in the team.”

The former Indian star also said slammed Pat Cummins’ captaincy and called it defensive as he said “The Australian attack has had no answer when put under pressure, both in Perth and here. The captaincy was very ordinary as the plans kept changing. The thinking was also very defensive."

According to Parthiv Patek, the top order need to look at the grit shown by the latter half of the batting going into Melbourne Test. “There will be a different belief in the team that if the last two batters can fight it out, the top and middle-order can also score runs if they apply themselves. Look at the number of balls they have faced. Jadeja and KL Rahul faced 115 balls. Nitish Reddy and Jadeja combined to face 104 balls. Jasprit Bumrah and Akash Deep also faced 54 balls,” he added.
