Top 5 Bowling Spells of Mohammed Siraj in IPL History

Star India pacer Mohammed Siraj is celebrating his 31st birthday today; the Hyderabad-born pacer made his international debut for India eight years back in 2017. Since then, he has emerged as one of the star pace spearheads for the Indian team across all formats. Besides that, Siraj is one of India's most successful bowlers in Tests when taking wickets in overseas conditions.

Apart from this, Siraj debuted in the cash-rich Indian franchise tournament, the Indian Premier League, in the 2017 edition of the tournament while playing for his hometown franchise, Sunrisers Hyderabad. However, he was later picked by Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in 2018 before the IPL 2025 mega-auction. In IPL 2025, the star pacer will be in action for his new franchise, the Gujarat Titans. The Titans bought him for a whopping amount of INR 12.50 crores.

4/21 – RCB vs PBKS – 2023

RCB and PBKS were taking on each other in the 27th game of IPL 2023 at the PCA IS Bindra Stadium in Mohali on April 20, 2023. PBKS skipper Sam Curran won the toss and asked RCB to bat first. Batting first, the visitors posted a total of 174 runs for the loss of 4 wickets in the allotted 20 overs, courtesy of half-centuries scored by Virat Kohli and Faf du Plessis. 

While defending the target, it was time for Mohammed Siraj to shine with the ball for his side. He bowled a sensational spell, scalping 4 wickets at just 21 runs in his four-over spell. The star pacer took some crucial and big wickets that helped RCB to bundle out PBKS at the score of just 150 runs in 18.2 overs to win the game by 24 runs. Siraj also won the Player of the Match award for his sensational match-winning performance.

4/32 – SRH vs Gujarat Lions – 2017

During his debut year in the Indian Premier League, Mohammed Siraj was in action for SRH against the Gujarat Lions in the 53rd match of IPL 2017. SRH skipper David Warner won the toss and asked the Lions to bat first. Mohammed Siraj proved his skipper’s decision correct with his amazing bowling spell. 

He scalped 4 wickets at 32 runs in his 4 overs and played a vital role in bundling out the Gujarat Lions at the score of just 154 runs in 19.2 overs. Later, SRH comfortably chased down the target in 18.1 overs, scoring 158 runs for the loss of 2 wickets and won the game by a massive 8-wicket margin.

3/8 – RCB vs KKR – 2020

RCB and KKR faced each other in the 39th game of IPL 2020 in Abu Dhabi. KKR skipper Eoin Morgan won the toss and decided to bat first. But it looked like RCB’s Mohammed Siraj had some different plans on that day.

He bowled a fiery four-over spell, scalping 3 wickets at just 8 runs, including two maiden overs. On the back of Siraj’s exceptional bowling performance, RCB restricted KKR to a score of just 84 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in the entire 20 overs, which they comfortably chased down in 13.3 overs to win the game by 8 wickets. Siraj won the Player of the Match award for his outstanding bowling performance.

3/22 – RCB vs LSG - 2023

RCB, at their home venue in Bengaluru, were taking on Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in the 15th match of IPL 2023 on April 10, 2023. LSG won the toss and asked RCB to bat first; batting first, the hosts posted a big total of 212 runs for the loss of just 2 wickets in the allotted 20 overs. 

While chasing the target, LSG completed a struggling yet successful run-chase, scoring 213 runs for the loss of 9 wickets and won the game by a narrow 1-wicket margin. But what attracted eyeballs despite RCB’s defeat was the valiant bowling efforts from Mohammed Siraj. He scalped 3 wickets at just 22 runs in his entire four-over spell.

3/25 – RCB vs SRH – 2018

In his first year with RCB in the IPL, Siraj was playing against his previous franchise, SRH, in the 39th game of IPL 2018. RCB skipper Virat Kohli won the toss and asked the hosts to bat first; batting first, the SRH were bundled out at the score of just 146 runs, thanks to the brilliant bowling from RCB pacers, especially Mohammed Siraj. 

Siraj scalped 3 wickets at just 25 runs in his four overs to end up as the most successful bowler for RCB in that match. However, his efforts went in vain as RCB failed to chase the target and lost the game by a narrow 5-run margin.
