Top teams rated by their spin combinations in T20 World Cup 2024 (File Photo: Internet)
The highly anticipated upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2024 is just two days away; the tournament is set to commence on June 1 with the inaugural match between the co-hosts USA and Canada at the Grand Prairie. Interestingly, it is going to be the first-ever edition in the tournament’s history to have a participation of 20 teams.
Besides that, all eyes are on some great batters and bowlers, including some established greats and emerging youngsters as well. However, considering the slow pitches in the West Indies, the spinners might also have a crucial role to play in the tournament.
Given that, here we’ll have a look and rate the top 10 teams on the grounds of their spin combinations in the tournament.
Here’s a look at the top 10 teams in the T20 World Cup 2024, based on their spin combinations:
10. West Indies (4.5/10)

All of the top 10 teams have tried to strengthen their spin attack for the marquee international tournament considering the spin-favouring conditions in the Caribbean ground but, the co-hosts themselves are lacking in their spin attack. The Caribbean side’s expectations will revolve a lot around the ‘number-3 ranked’ T20I bowler Akeil Hosein. The other two options for West Indies are the less experienced Gudakesh Motie and all-rounder Roston Chase.
9. Australia (5/10)

The Aussies have been one of the few teams in the last few decades who are known for their lethal pace attack. But they have been seen with a lack of spinner in the white-ball cricket in the last couple of years. Speaking about Australia concerning T20 World Cup 2024, they seem to have their hopes relied on the spin duo of Adam Zampa and Ashton Agar, alongside having the batting all-rounder Glenn Maxwell as the third spinner in this mix.
8. Pakistan (5.5/10)

The 2009 World T20 champions have been known for their lethal explosive pace attack throughout the years, including the departure and arrival of a lot of talented speedsters. But the spin department has always been a ‘headache’ for the men in green, which they might also face in the upcoming prestigious cricket biennial. The team has only two specialist spinners, including Shadab Khan and Abrar Ahmed, with Imad Wasim and Iftikhar Ahmed as the part-timers. Meanwhile, the stance of Pakistan’s team management towards Abrar Ahmed is also raising eyebrows in the Pakistan cricketing scenario.
7. England (6.5/10)

Two-time World T20 champions have one positive while entering the T20 World Cup 2024 and that is none other than the World’s ‘number 1’ T20 bowler Adil Rashid on their side. He will be joined by the young debutant Tom Hartley. Besides these two specialists, the Three Lions have three other ‘part-time spinner’ options in the squad, including the likes of Will Jacks, Liam Livingstone, and Moeen Ali.
6. South Africa (7/10)

The Proteas have quite a bit of good available ‘spin bowling’ options; notably, the core spin attack of South Africa will be led by all three left-arm spinners, including Keshav Maharaj, Bjorn Fortuin, and Tabraiz Shamsi. The alternate options skipper Markram might opt for will be himself, alongside fellow right-arm spinner Tristan Stubbs.

Bangladesh will be in the tournament with one of the strong spin attacks; they will be relying a lot on their spin attack, including the three specialists Mahedi Hasan, Rishad Hossain, and Tanveer Islam. Apart from these three, the biggest positive for Bangladesh will be the leading wicket-taker in the history of the T20 World Cup, Shakib Al Hasan.
4. New Zealand (7.9/10)

The Blackcaps are coming up with a complete and fully loaded arsenal in all the departments, whether batting, pace bowling or spin bowling. Looking at the spin attack of the Kiwis, they will have the services of specialist spinners, Ish Sodhi and Mitchell Santner. Besides these two, skipper Kane Williamson will also have some other options to explore in Glenn Phillips, Michael Bracewell, and Rachin Ravindra, which makes a strong spin attack for the Blackcaps.
3. Sri Lanka (8.5/10)

The 2014 World T20 Champions will be coming up in the T20 World Cup 2024 with one of the heaviest spin attacks among all the participating teams. The list of their key spinners starts from the skipper Wanindu Hasaranga himself, alongside the star off-spinner Maheesh Theekshana. The duo will be joined by the other spinners in the lineup, including the likes of Dhananjaya de Silva, Kamindu Mendis, Charith Asalanka, and Duntih Wellalage.
